261 {cool find: lightly sweetened yogurt}

I LOVE yogurt! And last night, while I was shopping at Metropolitan Market, I discovered Siggi’s Icelandic Style Skyr. It was on sale (not cheap — 2 for $4), but the packaging caught my eye and the flavors sounded light & wonderful… Grapefruit, Orange & Ginger, Pomegranate & Passion Fruit, Blueberry, Acai, Vanilla, and of course, Plain.

Each 5.3 oz. serving has 14g of protein, 0g fat, and 11g of carbohydrate.

According to the package…

Skyr is the traditional yogurt of Iceland. It is made by incubating skim milk with live active cultures. The whey, the water naturally found in milk, is then strained away to make for a much thicker, creamier, concentrated yogurt. So to make just one cup of skyr, with all that water going out, you need 3 – 4 times the amount of milk required to make a regular cup of yogurt. As a result of this process skyr comes out with 2-3 times the protein count of standard yogurt.

When I got home, I opened a container of the Grapefruit, which was WONDERFUL! Typically, I buy Fage Plain because most flavored yogurt contains way too much sweetener, but Siggi’s is perfect — subtly flavored & the perfect tartness (it’s only VERY lightly sweetened with organic agave nectar).

Highly recommended! xo
